Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 12
Serving the Amityville Community since 2000 - Our 11th Year!

  

Flotilla 12 is located in Amityville, NY. We help patrol the Great South Bay and support US Coast Guard Station Fire Island. Our meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at the Amityville Memorial High School, Student Library, 250 Merrick Road, Amityville, NY 11701. Doors open and the meeting starts at 7:30pm.

If you don't want to attend a meeting, you can still take advantage of the services we provide to boaters. Our most popular are the Boating Safety Classes and Vessel Safety Checks.

Our next scheduled boating class starts:

 Saturday, June 9th, 9 AM to 5 PM at the Amityville Club
 Saturday, June 23rd, 9 AM to 5 PM at the Amityville VFW Hall
 Wednesday, June 13, 20 & 27, 6 PM to 9 PM each day.

Membership in the Coast Guard Auxiliary is open to U.S. citizens, at least 17 years old, and pass a basic background check. There are no upper age limits or height/weight standards, although for operational activities, you must be physically able to perform certain tasks. There are no minimum service hours – you can serve as little or as much as you want.


Join us at Tanner Park in Copiague on Saturday, May 19!
The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 1, in conjunction with the Town of Babylon, will be kicking off National Safe Boating Week with an interagency Boaters Safety event at Tanner Park in Copiague, on May 19, 2012.

Representatives will provide information and answer questions:

  • United States Coast Guard
  • Fire Department Marine Units
  • Suffolk County Marine Bureau
  • Manufacturers of boating safety equipment

  • Come join us as we present topics and equipment pertaining to boating safety and the boating safety services provided by each participating agency.

    Events:
  • Simulated Search and Rescue demonstration by Auxiliary aircraft and surface vessels.
  • Vessel Safety Check program discussion.
  • Vessel Safety Check Inspections performed by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary throughout the day.
  • Flare handling demonstrations.
  • Fire Department Marine Units will conduct on water demonstrations.
  • “Ready, Set, Wear It!” - bring your life jacket and come join in the fun!

    You do not have to own a boat or participate in water-based operations to join the Auxiliary.

    With nationwide membership, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary actively provides safety patrols on area waterways and regularly meets with the boating public at marinas and in classrooms. We also directly assist the U.S. Coast Guard in non-law enforcement programs such as search and rescue, and marine environmental protection.

    The Auxiliary needs people with leadership, administrative and technical skills (such as web site design, computer server administration, graphic design, photography, videography, communications, public relations/public affairs, instruction and instructional design, and personnel services) to support those Auxiliaries involved in the recreational boating safety and operations & marine safety missions.
